The recent crisis of coal has opened our eyes to find out alternative source of energy. There is recent increase of power consumption (17% last two months year-on-year) in India and most of the time the extra coal demand has been balanced by imports. But in 2021 there is disruption in coal supplies globally resulting higher (30-50%) coal price internationally. Closure of some coal mines and due to monsoon availability of local supply of coal has been reduced. Other countries facing almost similar problem.
Although there is no single renewable energy source that can single-handedly replace fossil fuels, it is likely that renewable energy sources will gain prominence over the time. It will take time for the transition from fossil fuels to renewable energy sources and it will not occur without setbacks and challenges.
